Dark Thoughts is a dark SciFi Romance featuring a hero who eats his enemies and a pint-sized assassin heroine who might be as messed up as he is. (grins) It isn’t a story for everyone but it IS a romance and it IS different. Readers have been telling me they’ve never read a story like it.
Can love redeem a monster?
The Refuge is home to some of the most violent beings in the universe. Kralj, its leader, reigns over the remote outpost with terrifying ease, ruthlessly squashing any rumors of rebellion, killing anyone who breaks his rules. Primitive, deadly, powerful, he’s a monster, scarred both on his face and his soul. He has never met a being he couldn’t control.
Until he meets her.
Dita has one mission—to kill the three targets claiming sanctuary within the Refuge. Or so she claims. For the first time in his long lifespan, Kralj isn’t certain of another being’s intentions. The tiny assassin is immune to his powers, her thoughts unreadable. He can’t predict her movements, can’t control her, can’t stop wanting her.
Dita is rare, as unique as he is, and, to keep the residents of the Refuge safe, Kralj will have to kill her. But first, he’ll touch her, taste her, show her how passionate the beast inside him can be.
Dark Thoughts is a STAND-ALONE SciFi Romance.
The hero might be tall, dark, and scarred but don’t be fooled by his appearance.
He’s truly a monster.
This story is not for readers with delicate sensibilities.
Now for the crazy interview portion of this interview!
1. You explore the boundaries of space and society in your books—cyborgs, space travel, even cannibalism in your latest release. Why do you write sci-fi romance—what is it about this subgenre that makes it fascinating for you?
The ‘what-if’s of SciFi Romance really appeal to me. What if we created half human, half machine beings to fight our wars? How would our society, our world as we know it, change? Would we consider these manufactured beings to be humans or weapons? If they’re considered to be weapons, would we allow them to make their own decisions, to fall in love, to have babies, or would we seek to control all of that?
The core of my stories is the romance and characters you and I can relate to. They might be living in a futuristic world but they want the same things we do—to be free, to be loved.
2. What’s the most common ‘theme’ found in your stories?
The most common theme in my story is, I think, the most common theme in SciFi Romance and maybe all of Romance – that, although we look and act different, we are all very much the same.
Kralj, the enemy-eating hero of Dark Thoughts, might be all powerful but that great power has made it very difficult for him to find love. At his core, he’s the same as all of us.
3. Your cyborg series has intriguing heroes. What makes them different—aside from not being completely human, what traits do your heroes share? What about the heroines in these stories?
My cyborg warriors, being half human, half machine, have a constant battle inside them between emotion and logic, between following commands and following their hearts. That’s something I think we all struggle with. Should we do what society, our parents, others want us to do or should we do what we find passionate?
The cyborgs are warriors so they’re loyal, brave, often self-sacrificing. They are designed to put others first.
It takes special heroines to look past their otherness, to understand their often dark pasts, to love them for who they are. The cyborgs are strong heroes and their human heroines are strong but in different ways.
The heroines of the cyborg series are quite diverse. Many of them are BBW and the cyborgs, especially being such large males, love their curves. Carys, the heroine of Hers To Command, is an older heroine. We have heroines of color. The cyborgs love them all deeply, passionately, forever.
4. You often tell funny stories on Facebook about conversations you have with your husband. It is that you both have a great sense of humor/sarcasm, or does that stuff just happen?
Well, stuff always happens (grins) but my Dear Wonderful Hubby’s sense of humor is one of the many things I love about him. We crack each other up.
We fell in love at first sight over 24 years ago and are still very much in love today. The humor allows us to deal with the challenges in life.
You’ll often see humor in even my darkest stories for that reason. Humor allows us to cope. It creates a bond between beings.
