A to Z Challenge: N is for Naima Simone

Welcome to the Nice Girls Writing Naughty version of the A-Z Challenge! Today’s featured guest author is one of my favorite authors, Naima Simone!

Here’s a little more about Naima:

USA Today Bestselling author Naima Simone’s love of romance was first stirred by Johanna Lindsey, Sandra Brown and Linda Howard many years ago. Well not that many. She is only eighteen…ish. Though her first attempt at a romance novel starring Ralph Tresvant from New Edition never saw the light of day, her love of romance, reading and writing has endured. Published since 2009, she spends her days—and nights— writing sizzling romances with a touch of humor and snark.

She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.

Her newest release:

Absolutely! My newest release is A Millionaire at Midnight, the fourth book in the Bachelor Auction series from Entangled Publishing’s Indulgence line. It’s loosely based on the Cinderella fairy tale, except with a twist—the story is told from the stepsister’s point of view. 😀 Socialite Morgan Lett is having a run of bad luck. Her fiancé just dumped her, the charity foundation she loves is in danger of folding, and the gorgeous man she won at a masquerade bachelor auction turns out to be her cold-hearted new employer.

Millionaire Alexander Bishop needs a wife. And Morgan is the perfect candidate. She may drive him crazy, but she needs money to save the foundation she loves, and he needs a fiancé. It’s a flawless arrangement—no strings, no love. Until she has him wanting more.

And her interview:

What story first hooked you as a reader?

My parents started my sister and I reading at a young age, so my earliest memories are of fairy tales, Beatrice & Ramona, Superfudge, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory…sigh. But the book that had the most impact on me as a reader was—is—The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. If my imagination was at 10 before reading it, afterward it’d blown up to 20! LOL! Today, I understand it has wonderful world-building, beautiful symbolism, a great plot and the most unforgettable characters. But back then all I knew was it made me believe in the impossible. It made me feel like I’d eaten ice cream, see a unicorn and rode the Loch Ness Monster all at one time! To this day it’s my favorite book.

What excites you most about your current work-in-progress?
Actually, it’s that I get to include my husband, father and brother-in-law. For the first time I’m writing about football players, and I know zip-zero-nada about football. Well, other than Troy Polamalu is the patron saint of football eye candy. *snicker* And since he’s retired, there’s even less reason for me to be interested. I know that’s pretty blasphemous talk considering where I live. LOL!! But they’re helping me with all the ins-and-outs of football. Making sure my stats and wording is correct. It’s pretty cool and fun! And of course, they’ve all insisted that they end up in the Acknowledgments… Actually, my father has hinted toward wanting a percentage of the royalties. LMAO!!

What’s your morning beverage of choice?
Coffee, preeeeccccciiioooouuuussssssss. We neeeeedsssssss it!

What’s the most common ‘theme’ found in your stories?
Looking back on my books, I would have to say that the most common theme is our pasts don’t define us. Whether it’s issues with a cold parent, bullying, low self-esteem, rejection… What and who we’ve been told in the past doesn’t have to determine who we choose to become. It’s not what we’re called that decides who we are but what we answer. And that love heals all wounds—love of self, love of another person, and loving someone more than we do ourselves.
