Welcome to the Nice Girls Writing Naughty version of the A-Z Challenge! Today’s featured guest author is Anita Philmar, brought to you by the letter F.
Here’s a little more about Anita:
Anita Philmar likes to create stories that push the limit. A writer by day and a dreamer by night she wants her readers to see the world in a new way.
Influenced by sci-fi programs, she likes to develop places where anything can happen and where erotic moments come to life in a great read.
She has a number of series, which include Black Dragon – 3 books, Banished-3 books, The Cowboys of Naked Bluff, Texas 6+ books, and a number of stand-alones.
Naughty or Nice?
Read her and decide.
And here’s her interview:
Hi Anita! Thanks so much for joining us today. We chose the letter F for you not just because of your fabulosity, but because many of your romances feature Fantasy and paranormal elements. Your Black Dragon series include humans with dragon’s blood running through their veins and your Banished series feature shapeshifters. What is it about fantasy and paranormal romance that appeals to you?
I love creating a new world with a new set of rules. In fantasy my characters can have special abilities and play outside the realm of reality. The stories explore how these skills can both help and hinder they ability to fit into their society. It also shows how people view them and the problems they cause.
You’ve also written a number of cowboy romances! Talk about a change of pace. Many of them take place in Naked Bluff, Texas. Your website says you grew up in Texas. Do you live there still? And have you come upon many cowboys in real life? (Inquiring minds want to know, lol.)
Yes, I was born and lived in Texas for many years. I love the history and the pride of the state. As I’ve stated many times my heart belongs to Texas even if I don’t currently live there.
I have also met many cowboys. I had a cousin, who rode in rodeos where cowboys tend to hang out. They are a different breed of men, who I find more than fascinating. Growing up I thought of myself as a cowgirl, and I can’t help but love the grit cowboys show every day.
And some random fun facts:
When did you know you first HAD to write?
I liked to tell stories as a youth, but I was told a writing career was not worth pursuing because it was so hard to get a publisher. Thankfully, time has changed the way things are done. Now with small press publishers and the ability to self-publish, I have been able to write the books I want to read and share them with the world.
What’s your morning beverage of choice?
I head for the coffee pot first thing. Which is kinda of strange, seeing as I didn’t even like the stuff until they came out with flavored creamers.
How do you deal with real-life distractions (job, kids, cats, birds chirping…)?
Lucky for me, writing is my job and I love it. The problem comes in with the marketing and social demands of being an author. Those are my biggest distractions.
When I had my children at home, I let them know I needed time to write and to leave me alone. For the most part, that worked.
Now, I work in my office while my husband is at work so I have a nice quiet space to concentrate. Still, it can be a challenge some days when other errands need to get done. I try to schedule them all on one day so they don’t eat up my writing
What excites you most about your current work-in-progress?
I love the science behind my new series. It is called the Ancient Warrior Prophecy. The first book The Warrior in Me used the science discovered in 1997 of the human genome having Neanderthal DNA. Now, some might not think this is important. My story proves that it is, well for one group of people. The are the saviors of the world. But the world doesn’t know it.
The next book deals with creating life using stem cell research. Now, the series is based on a paranormal group which has special abilities, but the research and the groups discuss are more real than many of us want to believe.
With hot scenes plus the adventure of a murder mystery, I’m hoping these books will appeal to a wide range of readers.
Thanks, Anita! This was so much fun. Before you go, please tell us a little about your newest release.
