Because we’re authors here at Nice Girls Writing Naughty, so covers are all important, right? I know a lot of readers wonder about the behind-the-scenes stuff that happens with the books they love, and with my next release, ONLY FOR THE NIGHT, the cover was a big deal, let me tell ya!
Book covers are planned months in advance, sometimes even years by big publishers. This cover took longer than most of mine, which are created in about a month. But NIGHT was special. Why? Because it’s a bit of an in between book. It’s a BDSM romance, the second in my IF ONLY BDSM series — and it’s a small-town beach story. You don’t get that mix very often. 🙂 Usually BDSM stories are set in big city clubs, maybe centered around high-powered groups of alpha males like bodyguards or cops, that kind of thing. Book one in this series, ONLY FOR THE WEEKEND, was set in Las Vegas, where the heroine went for a weekend at a resort to meet a mystery Dom.
So, yeah, BDSM and beaches and small towns and — I forgot! — bakeries don’t usually show up together. Until now!
The first rendition of the cover for NIGHT reflected that. Let’s just say, it looked more like beach romance (you know, Roxanne St. Claire or someone like that) than BDSM (Lexi Blake’s hot series, you know…). I love a good beach romance, but a couple cuddling in the waves just didn’t have the right vibe for this book.
So we tried again. And guess what? Here’s what we came up with:
What do you think? More BDSM, less beachy? Yes, I think so too. 😉
ONLY FOR THE NIGHT
If Only, Book 2
She needs a Dom with heart. He sees the lifestyle as heartless.
Can a brave submissive show a rock star that accepting his true nature will be nirvana for both of them? Letting go with her may help him put the pieces of himself—and his band—back together again.
Struggling with the death of her mother, Sage Lyndsey turned to her Dom for comfort, but his impatience led to a humiliating scene in front of their club. Devastated, she runs to a small town on the Cali coast. Buying into Citrus Pointe’s bakery may be her best decision ever—if she can overcome the embarrassment of having her new landlord’s dog steal her towel right in front of him. It gets worse when she realizes he’s none other than rock bassist Hank Nash, and despite the problems it would cause, she wants nothing more than his talented hands on her, bending her to his will.
Hank is an ex-cop who knows all too well what dominance looks like when it turns to abuse—he saw the consequences on another cop’s wife. After turning the man in, Hank left that life behind to start a rock band, Weekend Washout. Now he’s fighting to keep the band together, and to deny his urge to dominate pretty, spunky Sage. But when Sage’s ex-Dom reappears, Hank is forced into a life-changing decision: Accept both their needs and gain more than one night with Sage, or retreat to the safe life he’s built so carefully?
NIGHT will be releasing May 31st, but in the meantime, WEEKEND is available for only $0.99 if you’d like to get a sneak peek at the series. You can find WEEKEND here:
