Welcome to the NGWN Group Blog – How Do YOU Do All the Things? That’s A!

It’s April 1st!  Which means, it’s the start of the A-Z Challenge.  Over the next month, you’ll be reading posts from me and my fellow Nice Girls Writing Naughty.  We’ll share tips, news, recipes, excerpts – basically anything that’s fun for us and that we think you’ll enjoy.

For today, I figured I’d share a little about why I like challenges and then ask you, Dear Reader, a question.  First, my challenges:

  • I started writing Morning Pages, an idea of Julia Cameron’s (author of the Artist’s Way) back in my early 20’s (so, last week).  It’s three pages of longhand writing a day.
  • I’m working on incorporating more steps into my daily round: my goal is 12,000 steps a day, but I’m averaging between 5,000 and 10,000 right now.
  • I joined a gym challenge in December, where I won a free gym membership for one month, by going to the gym for 25 days in a row between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • This month, of course, it’s the A-Z Challenge.

I find challenges motivate me to do new things, and to incorporate habits into my daily round that I want to develop.  Healthy eating, writing, movement – all of these can be helped by challenges because I get the support of others doing the same things.

What about you, Dear Reader?  What motivates you to make positive changes?

My problem is I’m all for a challenge in the beginning, I find it exciting, but by about halfway through I’ve lost a lot of my motivation. I think because it takes so much energy to get through a daily life of EDJ, family, and writing. There’s very little left. 🙂 so I’m a compulsive starter who grits her teeth all through the last half to finish!

    1. I think you’re not alone in that. Trying to work full time, be a full time parent, AND write is a lot of balls to juggle. But I like to look at it as we’re doin’ it anyway! 🙂

I struggle to take on new challenges as my life is currently so crazy I dream of being able to sleep in and do nothing fir just one day. I am utterly gobsmacked how you manage to maintain your challenges and am super impressed. Good for you for getting the exercise in.

    1. I think sleeping in and doing nothing for a day sounds like pure Heaven! 🙂
